Free is the real product.
Privacy-first only works if the free tier actually works. The 18 wins, the three journal sessions, and the streaks are all free, forever. Pro is what you upgrade to when you want to bend the defaults.

The questions
worth asking.
Morrow Self is a private journal and daily-wins tracker for people who want to treat their life like a system they can iterate on. Track wins across 6 life domains (physical, mental, learning, social, productivity, creativity), reflect with three structured journal sessions (morning, evening, deep dive), and watch streaks build. Your journal entries stay on your phone and are never uploaded to our servers, so we can't read them.
Two differences. First, Morrow Self isn't journaling-only — daily wins across 6 life domains are the primary surface, with journaling as the reflective layer underneath. Second, journal entries never leave your phone, because the app has no code that uploads them, and you can check that from outside with airplane mode. Day One syncs entries to iCloud; Stoic syncs to its own cloud. Morrow Self syncs your wins, your tasks and your account data, and none of your writing.
Journal content is stored on your device and never transmitted to our servers, because the app has no code that uploads it. That is a property of the app you can check, not a promise about our database schema: put Morrow Self in airplane mode, write for a week, and nothing breaks. One exception is worth naming. Finishing a session fires an analytics event with none of the writing attached, so the server learns that a session happened and when. Your daily wins and tasks, your onboarding answers and your account data do sync, so they follow you across devices. The privacy nutrition labels on the App Store reflect this — 'Data Not Collected' for journal content, voice recordings, message content.
Free covers 18 predefined wins across 6 domains, all three journal session types, streaks, fiesta celebrations, and three languages. Pro ($4.99/mo, $39/yr, or $79 one-time) adds custom wins, AI-personalized journal prompts, insights v2 (pattern detection), uncapped timer wins, and advanced theming. The free tier is genuinely useful — we want privacy-first to be a real choice, not a paywalled feature.
No. No journal text is sent to any model, ours or anyone else's. The daily reflection question comes from a fixed instruction that contains nothing you wrote, and the weekly recap is written from two numbers: how many wins you completed that week and which day was your best. Both are written by a small model that runs on your phone. The first-run onboarding is a separate conversation that runs on our server, and the answers you type there are not journal entries.
Physical, mental, learning, social, productivity, and creativity. Three wins per domain, 18 total. The split isn't dogmatic, it's the smallest grid that covers a life without becoming a chore. The /method page walks through why this split, and the wins map page lists all 18 with the reasoning behind each.
Malik Chohra built Morrow Self as a daily-driver app for his own routine. Every feature exists because he wanted to use it, and the privacy architecture means even he can't read your entries.
